Mr. Wm. Rossasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is considered to be the normal range of police duties in regard to firearms legislation affecting firearms dealers and applicants, respectively.
§ Mr. DunnIt is for the Chief Constable to determine the police work necessary to fulfil his responsibilities under the Firearms Act (Northern Ireland) 1969. I am informed that this includes the receipt and careful assessment of applications; consideration of the adequacy of the security arrangements for the storage of the firearms; where appropriate the inspection of premises and records; and the preparation and issue of appropriate certificates.
