HC Deb 15 February 1978 vol 944 c284W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is considered to be the normal range of police duties in regard to firearms legislation affecting firearms dealers and applicants, respectively.

Mr. Dunn

It is for the Chief Constable to determine the police work necessary to fulfil his responsibilities under the Firearms Act (Northern Ireland) 1969. I am informed that this includes the receipt and careful assessment of applications; consideration of the adequacy of the security arrangements for the storage of the firearms; where appropriate the inspection of premises and records; and the preparation and issue of appropriate certificates.
