§ Miss Margaret JacksonMy Department does not collect information about how local education authorities exercise their discretionary power to provide clothing grants. The circular letter issued in May 1977 was a statement of my right hon. Friend's views on school uniform which, it was understood, would be welcomed by those authorities which were considering their policy in this matter. It did not call for any reply.
