§ Mr. Warrenasked the Secretary of State for Trade what duty is payable on aircraft imported into the United States of America from the United Kingdom compared with the duty charged on aircraft of the same size imported from the United States of America into the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. MeacherCustoms duty is payable at the rate of 5 per cent. on aircraft imported into the United States of America from the United Kingdom, regardless of their size. Customs duties on aircraft imported from the United States of America into the United Kingdom are chargeable at rates of 12 per cent. for aircraft of an unladen weight not exceeding 2,000kg; 5.5 per cent. for aircraft of an unladen weight exceeding 2,000kg but not exceeding 15,000kg; and 5 per cent. for aircraft of an unladen weight exceeding 15,000kg. As I informed the hon. Member on 12th December 1977—[Vol. 941, c. 28–9]—the duty on aircraft of an unladen weight exceeding 15,000kg is currently totally suspended.
