§ 20. Mr. Maddenasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action he has taken to persuade local authorities to allow disabled telephone subscribers to retain a portion of the £7 telephone rebate.
§ Mr. Alfred MorrisWhile responsibility for deciding what action should be taken is for local authorities and I have no power to intervene, I made clear my view that the authorities should act generously toward individual disabled people and that they should use any part of the rebates they retained on increasing their level of expenditure on services for the disabled. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of a letter on this matter which I have sent to Mr. Frank Field, the Director of the Child Poverty Action Group.
