§ 24. Mr. Kenneth Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he proposes to take to reduce overcrowding in remand homes.
§ Dr. SummerskillThe existing remand centres have so far been able to accomodate all those committed to them by the courts. The catchment areas of the centres cover most of the country, and the opening of a new centre near Leicester in 1979 will fill the major gap in that coverage. Additional accomodation is also being built at Thorp Arch near Wetherby.
