HC Deb 02 February 1978 vol 943 cc311-2W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will introduce an amendment to the Post Office Act 1969 seeking to make Ministers report to the House for all known aspects of the work of the Post Office that covers the collection or non-collection of the mails on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Mr. Les Huckfield

No; the purpose of the Post Office Act 1969, which was supported by both sides of the House, was to give the Post Office the status of a public corporation and with it the freedom to act on the operational and day-to-day aspects of its business.
