HC Deb 02 February 1978 vol 943 c245W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Attorney-General whether he intends to establish a central public register of land ownership; and if he will make a statement.

The Solicitor-General

My noble Friend is not yet in a position to make decisions about such a register. It is to be hoped that a comprehensive register of title to land in accordance with the Land Registration Act 1925 will in due time be completed. Compulsory registration on sale under that Act already extends to areas comprising about 75 per cent. of the population. My noble Friend will consider the question of public access to the register of title in the light of forthcoming recommendations of the Law Commission.
