HC Deb 02 February 1978 vol 943 cc309-10W
Mr. Alan Lee Williams

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will publish details of the fatal flying accidents and the deaths of RAF aircrew in 1976 and 1977.

Mr. Wellbeloved

The details are set out in the following table:

(2) what is the number of jobs directly created or saved by the contract won by British contractors in the Hong Kong Mass Transit Scheme; and in what areas employment has benefited.

Mr. Cryer

It is not practicable to estimate the number of jobs directly or indirectly created or saved by the winning of the contract by British firms, but work for the contract is providing employment over four years for some 3,500 people in the railway equipment industry. Areas which have benefited include Yorkshire, the West Midlands and North-West and South-West England, where jobs would in some cases have been at risk if the contract had not been won.
