HC Deb 02 February 1978 vol 943 cc328-30W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if, further to the information contained in his Written Answer No. 91 to the hon. Member for Londonderry, he will now state the cost to the firearms section of the staff at Royal Ulster Constabulary Headquarters and the cost of the work done by the Royal Ulster Constabulary at divisional level, showing, if possible, the sums for overtime.

Mr. Dunn

A breakdown of the costings relating to pay and allowances for the financial year 1976–77 is as follows:

£
RUC Headquarters(including civilian staff) 72,000
Divisional costs 76,000
Senior staff 15,000
Overtime (total) 7,000
Allowances 28,000
Police Authority staff 2,000

Costs have since increased, largely as a result of increases in police pay.

Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if, further to his answer, Official Report, 20th January, columns 393–4, he will relate the figures for firearms certificates and renewals to the fees received in the financial years 1972–73 and 1976–77.

Mr. Dunn

Records of firearms certificates granted or renewed are maintained in relation to calendar years. The information requested is not, therefore, readily available, and could only re obtained by an examination of individual records for the years in question.
