§ Mr. Woodasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his present estimate of the cost of providing adequate protection for the coastline of the Bridlington constituency (a) against flooding, such as occurred in recent storms and (b) against regular coastal erosion.
§ Mr. ShoreUnder the Coast Protection Act 1949, it is for the Holderness and North Wolds district councils to determine the degree of protection against regular erosion needed in their areas and to put forward proposals, with estimated costs, if they think that is necessary.
Protection against flooding is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. I understand he has been assured by the drainage authority that, in the main, the Bridlington constituency is defended to the standard recommended in the report of the Waverley Committee in 1954. Works in progress at an estimated cost of £110,000 will restore to this standard two areas which have been affected.
