War Widows' Pensions

Mr. Bowden

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the cost of excluding the whole of all war widows' pensions from tax.

Mr. Robert Sheldon:

The cost of the present 50 per cent. exemption in 1978–79 is about £10 million. The cost of complete exemption would be about £16 million.
