Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what discussions he has had with the Humberside county council concerning the review of the definitive map of public rights of way, bridle paths and footpaths; whether the second review has started to take place; and what steps he is taking to ensure that no bridle path, public right of way and footpath is lost through the failure of the Humberside county council to expedite its review and to expedite its statutory duty;

(2) what discussions he has had with the North Riding of Yorkshire county council concerning the review of the definitive map of public rights of way, bridle paths and footpaths; whether the

down by 294; there has been no significant change in industrial discharges—but if anything a slight improvement has occurred; and there has been a net reduction on 280 km. in the length of grossly polluted rivers and canals.
