§ Mr. Crawfordasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what criteria govern his department's instructions concerning the release on parole of prisoners in England.
§ Mr. Merlyn Rees:Criteria for selection for parole were promulgated by my predecessor, following consultation with the Parole Board, in conjunction with a statement to the House, on 4th August, 1975. A statement of the criteria was placed in the Library of the House and they have since been published as an appendix to the Parole Board's annual reports for 1975 and 1977.
