Mr. MacCormick

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list those public bodies which have responsibility for aspects of land use in Scotland.

Mr. Milan:

Apart from Government Departments and local authorities, the principal public bodies with executive or advisory responsibilities relating to land use are:

  • Countryside Commission for Scotland
  • Crofters Commission
  • Crown Estate Commissioners
  • Forestry Commission
  • Highlands and Islands Development Board
  • Institute of Geological Sciences
  • Institute of Terrestrial Ecology
  • Lands Tribunal for Scotland
  • Macaulay Institute for Soil Research (Soil Survey for Scotland)
  • Nature Conservancy Council,
  • Red Deer Commission
  • Scottish Agricultural Colleges (Advisory Services)
  • Scottish Development Agency
  • Scottish Land Court
  • Scottish Tourist Board
