Mr. Madden

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how much research and development funding assistance was given to the British aerospace industry in the last full year for which figures are available.

Mr. Les Huckfield,

pursuant to the reply [Official Report, 11th December 1978;Vol. 960, c. 63], gave the following information:

Net contributions from my Department's Votes to the British aerospace industry for civil research and development totalled £52 million for the year 1977–78, of which almost all was provided for British Aerospace and Rolls-Royce. A large proportion of these contributions was for Concorde development.
