§ Mr. BishopThe number of sows and gilts in pig in the United Kingdom breeding herd in June 1978 was 843,000 head of which 711,000 head were in England and Wales. A sample inquiry conducted only in England and Wales in September 1978 showed that the size of the breeding herd was 733,000 head compared with 697,000 head a year earlier.
