§ Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received about television advertising directed at children; and whether he will introduce legislation to protect children from exploitation by promotion and advertising campaigns.
§ Mr. Merlyn Rees:I have received no recent representations on this subject. In October the IBA, which has a statutory responsibility for controlling television advertising, announced the results of its review of the relevant part of its code on advertising standards and practice and, after consultation with my Department, reinforced and clarified its rules as they apply to advertisements directed at children. I see no reason on present information for further action on my part.
