§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made through the United Nations Commission on Human Rights about the detention and treatment of political prisoners, in South Africa, in particular, Winnie Mandela, Dr. Mamphela Rumphele, Jan Tuzwana, and Willie Bokala.
§ Mr. Rowlands:We have not made specific representations about the people mentioned by my hon. Friend but we have made quite clear in the United Nations Commission on Human Rights our repugnance at the banning and detention of people merely because of their opposition to apartheid. The South African Government can be in no doubt as to our strong views on the ill-treatment of prisoners.
