§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the maximum safe level of dieldrin that may be consumed per diem; what was the average intake in the last year for which figures are available; and if he is satisfied that other dangerous pesticides are not in use or cannot enter food in other ways.
§ Mr. Deakins:The recommended maximum acceptable daily intake for a person of 70 kg body weight is seven micrograms. A survey for the years 1975–77 in the United Kingdom has shown an average daily intake of 2.3 micrograms per person. There are other possible ways in which pesticide residues can enter food, but the very few cases which have been identified were sporadic and localised and not sig- 74W in terms of hazard to human health.
