HC Deb 08 December 1978 vol 959 c186W
Mr. Holland

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will list in the Official Report the full-time occupation and the part-time official appointments held by the chairman of the University Grants Committee;

(2) whether any part of the 29.6 per cent. increase during the past two years in the annual pay of the chairman of the University Grants Committee was due to an adjustment of the time input basis of calculation; and, if so, if she will specify the change in time input basis and the increase in annual gross emoluments directly attributable to this.

Mrs. Shirley Williams:

The post of chairman to the University Grants Committee is a full-time Civil Service period appointment at second permanent secretary level. The chairman holds no part-time official appointments. His salary, like that of other senior civil servants, is determined by the Government in the light of recommendations by the Review Body on Top Salaries. The increase paid between November 1976 and November 1978 was 11.3 per cent.
