HC Deb 08 December 1978 vol 959 c195W
Mr. Lee

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has received from the Government of Tanzania requesting assistance in view of the invasion of that country mounted by Uganda: and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rowlands:

The Tanzanian and British Governments have kept in touch about the attack by Uganda. The substance of these exchanges is confidential. As I told the hon. Member for Bury St. Edmunds (Mr. Griffiths) on 21st November, the British Government condemned the Ugandan attack. We welcome the restoration of Tanzania's territorial integrity. We deplore the loss of life and destruction, and have told the Tanzanian Government we arc ready to assist in relief and rehabilitation in the area.
