asked the Secretary of State for Energy how much land in England and Wales has been used for opencast working and (a) has been restored to agricultural use, (b) has ceased to be worked but remains unrestored, (c) is in the course of being worked and (d) is awaiting excavation but subject to current planning consent.

Mr. Eadie:

These are matters within the day-to-day responsibility of the National Coal Board and I am asking the chairman to write to the hon. Member.
