§ Mrs. Haymanasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many supplementary benefit staff would be saved if a new non-means-tested benefit removed from supplementary benefit (a) 100 per cent., (b) 90 per cent., (c) 75 per cent. and (d) 50 per cent. of one-parent families currently receiving it.
§ Mr. Deakins:The supplementary benefit elements of social security staff in headquarters, central offices and regional offices are not separately identified and within local offices the total resources employed on supplementary benefits work are not apportioned between the various claimant categories. Within the limitations that these factors impose, however, estimates suggest that local office staff savings might be in the order of:
