HC Deb 08 December 1978 vol 959 cc135-6W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons in the Caernarfon/Bangor area could benefit from a sheltered workshop in the area; if this figure includes all persons listed by family doctors as being disabled but who may not have applied for employment because of the known shortage of sheltered workshop provision; and what plans he has, in the light of these figures, to provide a sheltered workshop for the area.

Mr. John Grant:

A survey of the Caernarvon and Bangor areas has recently been conducted by area staff of the employment service division of the Manpower Services Commission. Taking into consideration all known severely disabled people in the area, 70 have been identified for whom sheltered employment would be suitable and a meeting is being arranged with representatives of Gwynedd county council to discuss plans to provide a workshop.
