§ Mr. Spearingasked the Minister of Overseas Development what special aid she is providing to Belize to assist with rehabilitation following the recent hurricane.
§ Mrs. Hart:We are providing additional aid of up to £ 4 million. It will be used mainly to help restore the citrus and banana plantations and for repairs to roads, bridges and other public works. The details of each project will be agreed between the Government of Belize and the British development division in the Caribbean. Our aid to Belize is currently on grant terms.
This aid is additional to the assistance, amounting to nearly £ 100,000, provided immediately after the hurricane by my Ministry's disaster unit and the British garrison in Belize.
