Mr. Thompson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) what proportion of the land surface of Wales is covered by trees; and what area this represents;

(2) how many acres of broadleaved woodland there are in Wales; and what proportion of the total land surface area this represents.

It is estimated that approximately 568,000 acres, representing 11.1 per cent. of the total land area, is woodland: 155,000 acres, representing 3.0 per cent. of the total land area, contain broadleaved trees.
