§ Mr. Terry Walkerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the human rights safeguards included in the Treaty of Rome extend to the Isle of Man.
§ Dr. Summerskill:The position of the Isle of Man in relation to the European Economic Community is governed by article 26 of the Act concerning the conditions of accession and by protocol 3 to the Treaty of Accession. The broad effect is that the Isle of Man is included in the EEC solely for customs purposes and for certain aspects of the common agricultural policy. The Treaty of Rome does not contain provisions in the field of human rights as such.
