§ Mr. Charles R. MorrisThe Scottish distant islands allowance payable to civil servants serving on certain islands was calculated in 1975 on the basis of the cost of three return journeys by sea to the mainland with a car. The rates of allowance differ according to the distance of the island from the mainland and according to marital status. The rates were last reviewed on 1st April 1978 when they were increased by 50 per cent.

§ Mr. Charles R. MorrisThe next normal date for reviewing the rates of allowance will be 1st April 1979. Any increase will be subject to the prevailing national incomes policy.
