HC Deb 03 August 1978 vol 955 cc534-5W
Mr. Shersby

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his policy towards the admission to the United Kingdom of passport holders and their dependants, including those dependants who hold Rhodesian passports, in the event of it being necessary for them to be evacuated from Rhodesia due to the worsening of the current situation whilst the House is adjourned.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

A high proportion of the citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies now in Rhodesia are entitled under the Immigration Act 1971 to enter and remain in the United Kingdom, and their admission, and that of their dependants, is governed by that Act, the immigration rules and the Southern Rhodesia (Immigration Act 1971) Order 1972. The Government will continue to watch the situation carefully.
