HC Deb 03 August 1978 vol 955 c537W
Q5. Mr. Bidwell

asked the Prime Minister what is his policy on the role of the family in the future development of British society.

The Prime Minister

The family has a central place in the development of a healthy society. Ministers, in developing the broad range of their economic and social policies, will therefore continue to pay particular attention to the contribution that improved provision for and protection of the family can make to this end. This care has shown itself in the great improvement in child benefits, the support for one parent families, the emphasis on family needs in income tax changes and reductions, the provision for free school milk, the help for young married couples to purchase their homes and the expansion of day care and nursery education facilities. Studies are going on about the taxation of the family; Sir Campbell Adamson is conducting a full scale review and research into family life and the CPRS will shortly be publishing a study of services for young children with working mothers.
