§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proposals he has now received from the Greater London Council for speeding up the completion of the Thames flood barrier; what is the estimated effect on the
638W(2) if he will publish in the Official Report details of imports of cattle, analysed by class and category from the Republic of Ireland in each of the last three years;
(3) if he will publish in the Official Report details of imports of store cattle, analysed by county of origin, in each of the last three years.
§ Mr. Meacher, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 24th July 1978; Vol. 954, c. 519–20], gave the following as the available information:
total cost; what representations he has received on the question from the Port of London Authority and what action he now proposes to take.
§ Mr. StrangThe Greater London Council has informed my Department of its decision to go ahead with a proposal to speed up completion of the barrier. The 639W council estimates that this will bring forward the completion date from mid-1983 to early in 1982. The cost of the proposal is a matter for negotiation between the council and the contractors. We have not yet received representations from the Port of London Authority about the proposal but if it maintains its previously expressed objection it will fall to my right hon. Friends the Minister and the Secretary of State for Trade to determine the issue under the provision of section 49(18) of the Thames Barrier and Flood Prevention Act 1972.
