§ Mr. Parryasked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) if he will take steps to intervene in the proposed closure of Seel House Press, Liverpool, pending an inquiry into its affairs and use of Government financial assistance;
(2) if he will make a statement on the redundancies notified arising from the proposed closure of Seel House Press, Liverpool, details of which have been sent to him by the hon. Member for Liverpool, Scotland Exchange.
§ Mr. Golding,pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 1st August 1978], gave the following information:
My Department was notified by this company on 26th July, in accordance with section 100 of the Employment Protection Act 1975, of its proposal to dismiss 92 workers on 27th September 1978.
On 1st August, my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Industry and I met trade union representatives of the work force together with my hon. friends the Members for Liverpool, Garston (Mr. Loyden), Liverpool, Walton (Mr. Heffer) and Liverpool, West Derby (Mr. Ogden) to discuss the situation.
A further meeting has been arranged to take place in Liverpool on 7th August between my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Industry and representatives of the company, the trade unions concerned and hon. Members from Merseyside constituencies.
