§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister for the Civil Service whether he is aware of the concern felt by the public in general and the taxpayers in particular at the growth in quasi-autonomous non-government bodies and the method of making appointments to them; and whether he will arrange to set up a national appointments board, under the control of a Select Committee, to investigate and make recommendations for all such appointments.
§ Mr. Charles R. MorrisMinisters keep under review the number of appointments they make to ensure that there are no more than are needed for the work to be done; Ministers are accountable to the House of Commons for these appointments.
