HC Deb 03 August 1978 vol 955 c581W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what economies in the use of public funds have been achieved by his Department within the past three years; and what sums have been saved as a result.

Mr. John Grant

The Department of Employment group constantly seeks to secure economies in the use of public funds. In the past three years the Department has extended arrangements for payment of unemployment benefits by computer which will result in substantial administrative savings from 1980–81 onwards. All the organisations in the DE group have made substantial progress in the period in achieving their contributions to the economies in the Civil Service announced in Cmnd. 6393.
