Mr. John Moore

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish a table showing for each year since 1945 the number of Revenue employees per £1 million of income tax collected in terms of 1970 prices.

The prices index used for 1962–63 and later years is the general index of retail prices, all items. For earlier years the index of prices of consumer goods and services given in table 2 at the CSO publication "The Internal Purchasing Power of the Pound" has been used.
