§ Mr. Maddenasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what progress has been made in discussions between the Director General of Fair Trading and the Building Societies Association with regard to the introduction of a scheme which would enable house purchasers to secure a joint valuation and structural survey prior to purchase; when he expects such a scheme to be introduced; what representations he has received in this matter; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. John FraserI understand from the Director General that a number of issues remain unresolved and the discussions are therefore continuing. At this stage, no definite term can be set for these and I am accordingly asking the Director General to advise my hon. Friend of their eventual outcome.
