HC Deb 03 August 1978 vol 955 c541W
Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what researches are being carried out into the use of finely-ground coal mixed with oil as steam boiler fuel; what developments are planned in this direction; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eadie

The use of mixtures of finely ground coal and oil as a boiler fuel is receiving considerable attention in the United States of America and a series of trials is under way in large industrial and small power station boilers. Work in the United Kingdom is confined to studies by oil companies who have not announced plans for trials.
