HC Deb 02 August 1978 vol 955 c370W
Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much money has been devoted into the effects of arthritis, rheumatism and related diseases in young people in each of the past five years.

Mr. Oakes

The Medical Research Council spent approximately £82,000 in the financial year 1977–78 on research into arthritis, rheumatism and related diseases which can be identified as specifically directed towards young people. Much of the council's other research in these areas, which accounted for expenditure of more than £½ million in 1977–78, is also relevant.

Details of expenditure in earlier years cannot be obtained without disproportionate expense.
