HC Deb 01 August 1978 vol 955 cc305-6W
Mr. Molloy

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what have been the numbers of retired officer posts within his Department in each year since 1970; how many retired officers have actually been in post during this period; and how many holders of such posts there were in each individual establishment.

Mr. Wellbeloved

No statistical records are readily available to show how many retired officer posts within the Ministry of Defence have been complemented in each year since 1970, nor is it current practice to maintain records showing the numbers of retired officers in individual establishments.

The numbers of posts currently complemented for members of the retired officer class are as follows:

Navy Department 279
Army Department 1,362
Air Force Department 274
Central Staffs 68
Procurement Executive 79
Total 2,062

The numbers of members of the retired officer class who have been in post on 1st April of each year since 1970 are shown in Table A.
