HC Deb 01 August 1978 vol 955 cc286-8W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what are the bodies for which his Department is responsible which would fulfil all the criteria for inclusion in "A Directory of Paid Public Appointments Made By Ministers", produced by the Civil Service Department, except for the fact that those appointed are not paid; in respect of which of these bodies expenses are paid; what those expenses amounted to in the last 12 months for which figures are available; and what were all the other main constituent costs.

Mr. Mason

The Northern Ireland Office is responsible for 12 such bodies. These, together with those for which the Northern Ireland Departments are responsible, are listed below. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses are payable to members of all the bodies listed except those marked with an asterisk. In a few cases, figures for expenses are not readily obtainable or are nil, but otherwise the total amount of expenses incurred in the last 12 month period for which figures are available is £45,042, of which £9,144 relates to the bodies for which the Northern Ireland Office is responsible. Information about other main constituent costs could only be obtained at disproportionate expense.
