HC Deb 01 August 1978 vol 955 c258W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, in view of the fact that under section 70 of the Medicines Act 1968 shops offering pharmacy services cannot sell such popular items as Aspro, Beecham's Powders and lip ointments except when a pharmacist is present, while shops that do not have pharmacies can sell such items at all times, what steps he is proposing to take to remedy this.

Mr. Moyle

Section 70 requires only that a registered pharmacist should be in personal control of the business of a pharmacy, so far as it relates to the retail sale or supply of medicinal products of any kind, and not that he should personally supervise every transaction. It does not require his presence at the point of sale of medicinal products which are on a general sale list.
