HC Deb 01 August 1978 vol 955 c224W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether, as the Whitehall official chauffeurs are a special case dealing with a special type of employment, he will arrange for their wages and conditions to be dealt with on a special arrangement basis in the same way as the police and top paid servants.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

There is a long-standing agreement with the trade union representing these drivers of the Government car service that they should have pay and conditions of service in accordance with the common pay and conditions of service structure negotiated by the Joint Co-ordinating Committee for Government Industrial Establishments (the JCC), which applies to nearly all Government industrial employees in a wide range of Government Departments. I have received no request from the trade union to alter these arrangements.
