HC Deb 01 August 1978 vol 955 c204W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why Mrs. Iris Mills has been held in solitary confinement for six weeks in Brixton Prison.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

Mrs. Mills is charged with conspiracy to cause explosions and, in view of the nature and circumstances of the alleged offence, is being provisionally held in security category A. Brixton Prison is the only establishment in the south-east of England which can accommodate female prisoners in this category, and Mrs. Mills is the only one there at present.
