§ Mr. Litterickasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his Department's estimate of the net cost to the British taxpayers of all Government services provided for and in Northern Ireland during 1977–78.
§ Mr. Joel Barnett, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 31st July 1978], gave the following information:
The latest estimate is £1,020 million.
248Wcould not be reasonably covered by the phrase "other losses"; they rather relate to the policy of the then Government in 1972–73 under which nationalised industries were unable to conduct their affairs commercially, and were compensated accordingly.
