§ Rev. Ian Paisleyasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list how the European Social Fund's allocations to Northern Ireland of £6.63 million in 1975, £8.8 million in 1976 and £10.71 million in 1977, were spent.
§ Mr. Concannon, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 31st July 1978], gave the following information:
The amounts of assistance received to date from the European Social Fund for the years 1975 and 1976 are £5,610,695 and £7,001,401 respectively. Claims are outstanding for both of these years. The claim for expenditure during 1977 will be considered in Brussels in the autumn of 1978.
Of the total for 1975, £5,388,280 was re-imbursement of the Department of Manpower Services for its training and rehabilitation schemes; £8,580 was reimbursement of the Department of Health and Social Services for its training of physiotherapists and £213,834 was paid to private companies for the training of additional workers.
Of the total for 1976, £6,377,966 was re-imbursement of the Department of Manpower Services for its training and rehabilitation schemes; £53,110 was re-imbursement of the Department of Health and Social Services for the training of medical and para-medical staff; £84,017 was re-imbursement of the Department of Agriculture for the training of forestry and drainage workers, and £268,600 was re-imbursement of the Department of Education for the training of young unemployed persons. In addition, £24,173 was re-imbursement for the training activities of industrial training boards and £193,534 was paid to private companies for the training of additional workers.
