HC Deb 01 August 1978 vol 955 c295W
Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will estimate the value of the economies effected by the "Save-it" campaign.

Dr. John Cunningham

It is impossible to separate energy savings achieved as a direct result of the "Save-it" campaign from the overall savings resulting from all energy conservation measures and the rise in energy prices. These overall savings have been estimated to be about 6 per cent. in both 1975 and 1976, but the margins of error are very wide. No figures for 1977 are available.

On the basis of interim estimates, existing policies are believed to have contributed to energy savings worth approximately £2,000 million during the period of the "Save-it" campaign.
