HC Deb 01 August 1978 vol 955 cc290-1W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what provision was made when 60 new houses were built in Carnlough to provide an adequate water supply without affecting the present supply to the rest of the community.

Mr. Mason

Because of local objections, the orginal scheme to augment water supplies in the Carnlough area was abandoned. Procedures have now been initiated for an alternative scheme to draw additional water from boreholes.

Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland why the seaside village of Carnlough, North Antrim, has had its water supplies cut between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily for the past month thus causing hardship for the elderly and large families and doing serious damage to the tourist industry in the village; and what is to be done about it.

Mr. Mason

Due to low rainfall, water supplies from local springs in the Cam-lough area have been cut-off from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Plans are in hand to augment supplies and as a temporary measure water is being taken by tanker into the area from 31st July 1978.
