asked the Prime Minister if he will list the duties of the Attorney-General.

The Prime Minister

The principal duties of the Attorney-General are to give legal advice to his colleagues and Government Departments, when requested to do so; to give legal advice to the House on the effect of proposed legislation and certain other matters; to be ultimately responsible for the enforcement of the criminal law in England and Wales and Northern Ireland; to protect the public interest by bringing civil and other proceedings in England and Wales; and to appear on behalf of the Crown in very important domestic and international cases.
