Considering only current support to the passenger business, the figure for BR was 1.2p per passenger kilometre. No corresponding figure for SNCF is available.
§ Mr. Clemitsonasked the Secretary of State for Transport what are the latest estimates of the amounts of subsidy per passenger kilometre received by the railway systems of France, Italy, West Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. William RodgersThe information can be obtained from the first biennial report from the EEC Commission, covering the economic and financial situation of railway undertakings. A copy of this report was deposited in the House of Commons Library in November 1977—ref. number 1673/77.
