HC Deb 27 April 1978 vol 948 cc657-8W
Mr. Welsh

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what representations he has received regarding the import of low price subsidised bulk raspberry and other fruit products into the United Kingdom; and what effect he estimates present East European and other Communist country imports will have on current and future prices for the home industry.

Mr. Bishop

I have been asked to reply.

Discussions have taken place from time to time with representatives of growers and food processors on the possible effect of imports of processed fruit products, including raspberries, from the Eastern Area. Imports of processed raspberries from third countries are subject to import certification. Certificates issued this year covering imports up to the end of June total 387 tonnes for the Eastern Area. It seems unlikely that these supplies would have a significant impact on our prices.
